12 May 2003 – Saudi Arabia: Three compounds housing westerners were attacked by terrorists in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Al Hamra Oasis village, Jadawel compound and the Vinnell compound were attacked. The three attacks resulted in 35 people killed and over 160 injured.
14 May 1948 – Israel: Founding of the state of Israel.
