Michael Bassett

Senior Asia Analyst

Michael Bassett is a senior North Korean affairs analyst who has published several papers on North Korea in America and in South Korea. His analyses are widely received in South Korea and have been used to brief Korean Intelligence Service agents and Senior ROK Army officers. He has lived on the DMZ near Panmunjom both as a soldier and civilian for numerous years over the past decade. Michael studied International Relations and Affairs with a concentration on Far East-Asian Affairs and Development, with a particular focus on North Korea, at American University in Washington, DC. He also studied North Korean affairs specifically, at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. He has volunteered tirelessly with numerous NGO’s worldwide that support North Korean defectors and is a fierce advocate for respecting North Korea as a rational actor and for normalizing diplomatic relations with them.
