23 Oct 2002 – Russia: Fifty Chechens seize Podshipnikov Zavod theatre in Moscow, taking more than 800 hostages; all Chechens and 124 hostages including one American were killed during the rescue. 361 COMMENT: With the latest Russian involvement in Syria against those opposing the Islamic State and other terrorist group’s terrorist incidents similar to this cannot be discounted. 23 Oct 1983 – Lebanon: Two truck suicide bombs were driven into the United States military barracks and the French military barracks in Beirut, Lebanon killing 299 American and French service personnel. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility. 361 COMMENT: Although the chances of a reoccurrence of this attack reoccurring is very limited, it could however, be the date that in it self which is significant. At the time this would have been classified as a terrorist “spectacular”. Although most terrorist attacks are now a spectacular, an attack marking this day could be carried out in the Middle East against an American objective. COMMENT ENDS
