Pakistan – On the 5 Aug 13 open source material stated that Pakistan had raised its terrorist alert to red and acting on information in the form of an intelligence intercept. The only information available was that the target was of high value. Security forces searched for suspected terrorists in the Margalla hills that surround Islamabad. Although many building had seen an increase in security there was also high security around Pakistan’s navy and air force headquarters. This threat may coincide with those of the Americans and British but may also be a result of the jail breaks that occurred recently.
On the 9 Aug 13 the United States ordered non essential personnel to leave the consulate in the city of Lahore, Pakistan after credible information was received regarding a terrorist threat. No further information known.
Philippines – On the 5 Aug 13 it was reported that a large bomb possible rigged to a vehicle exploded in Cotabato City approximately 880 miles south of Manila during the rush hour and along a main road. An armoured SUV carrying the city administrator Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi was passing as the device detonated. Over the last few days Guiani-Sayadi had been receiving death threats. Although no-one had claimed responsibility there is a possibility that the attack was carried out by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM) (also known as the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)) as it had been responsible for another attack last July. The group is against the Moro Islamic Liberation front (MILF) holding talks with the Philippine government. BIFM broke away from the MILF in 2008. Their goal is the independence of the Bangsamoro area and the group has an Islamic fundamentalist ideology. They intend to carry on the fight for independence and state they will settle for nothing less even though
